VIDEO: Nathan MacKinnon Ejected After Barreling Into Oilers Goalie

The Avalanche will play the rest of Tuesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers without Nathan MacKinnon.

The superstar center was ejected late in the second period after barreling into Connor Ingram while Colorado was on the power play. Ingram was cut and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Tristan Jarry.

The officials instantly called it a five-minute major for goalie interference and reviewed it. Several minutes later, the call was confirmed, and MacKinnon was ejected. MacKinnon came in with speed and collected a pass from Martin Necas. There was slight contact with defenseman Darnell Nurse as he went into the blue paint.

The Avalanche led 1-0 and 2-1 earlier in the evening but trailed the Oilers 3-2 at the time of the penalty. Without MacKinnon, the team will likely rely on Nazem Kadri to shift to center. They’ll also have 4:05 of a penalty to kill once the Connor Murphy penalty expires.
