Former Towie star Chloe Lewis is calling for a new law change after her son’s finger was ‘sliced off’ during a terrifying ice skating accident.

The reality TV star recently opened up about the awful incident that happened on New Year’s Eve. At the time, her six year old son Beau fell over on the ice and had his finger run over by another skater who was wearing bladed skates.

He was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, where medical staff unsuccessfully attempted to reattach the severed finger.

Chloe appeared on Wednesday’s (March 11) episode of Good Morning Britain and revealed that she is now campaigning for the government to make protective gloves mandatory for children whilst ice skating.

Speaking to hosts Ed Ball and Susanna Reid, she explained: “I don’t want to see any other parent go through what I went through and child as well.

“But for me, it was more that I can’t bring back his finger and I’m hoping that it’s not going to bother him in secondary school, which can happen, people can be horrible to people.

“So for me, it’s more that one day I can hopefully tell him that we changed the law. I can’t bring back your finger, but one day we’ve changed the law and made it better for other children and safer for other children.”

Following the incident, Planet Ice, the biggest ice rink operator in the UK, has decided to change its rules. There will be “mandatory standard glove wearing for children under 12 at all Planet Ice rinks throughout the UK from June 1,” the company said in a statement.

The incident with Chloe’s son did not happen at one of their venues but the Towie star launched her petition for the government to make glove-wearing compulsory across all ice-skating rinks.

Chloe went on to say: “Planet Ice has now, because of what happened with me and Beau, made it compulsory from the 1st of June that there will be gloves and it’s compulsory that children wear them under the age of 12.

“So they’ve done this just on the pure fact that they think it should be a law already. I’m hoping that once this falls in place and we’ve got 100,000 signatures we can get to that stage.”

The government responds to all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures, and at 100,000 signatures, petitions are considered for debate in Parliament.

At the time, Chloe was reluctant to share the news about the incident as she told her almost one million Instagram followers: “I didn’t know whether to share this with the world or not, as he’s my baby & as a parent you’re always protective over your child. I’m sharing to help others and raise awareness.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX
