California girl, 11, found safe in North Carolina after 2020 kidnapping: authorities

An 11-year-old girl who was kidnapped in California in 2020 was found safe in North Carolina, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were notified on Monday by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services that the child, who had been abducted on June 2, 2020, might be in North Carolina.
Authorities determined the child was enrolled in Washington County Schools under an alias. After coordinating with multiple agencies in North Carolina and California, deputies located the child and took her into protective custody.
They also confirmed the child is safe.
Officials said due to the child’s age and ongoing investigations, no additional information will be released, and her name is being withheld.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office thanked the agencies in California and North Carolina that assisted in the case, noting the recovery marks a rare positive outcome in a years-old kidnapping investigation.
