Mother knows best, especially when it’s Kathryn Hahn.
The Tiny Beautiful Things and The Studio actress has confirmed her casting in Disney’s live-action Tangled film as Mother Gothel, the villain who keeps Rapunzel (Teagan Croft) hidden away from the world in order to benefit from the healing magic of her long blonde hair.
Deadline first reported that Hahn was in talks for the role in January. Deadline first told you that development on Tangled was revived in October when Scarlett Johansson began circling the role of Mother Gothel. The two-time Oscar nominee had to back away from any consideration for the part due to her future production schedules on Batman II and The Exorcist reboot.
Hahn posted a video to Instagram in which she shared that she had just learned that OOTD means Outfit of The Day, showing off a Tshirt full of the animated Mother Gothel (voiced by Donna Murphy) cutouts. Coincidentally, since Hahn joined Instagram, her username has been @motherhahn.
Milo Manheim (Zombies franchise) will star as Flynn Rider, ruffian, thief and empoyer of The Smolder.
The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will direct the film from a script draft by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Someone Great, I Know What You Did Last Summer). Kristin Burr will produce for Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada exec producing. Disney’s original animated Tangled (2010) was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard. Mandy Moore voiced Rapunzel, and Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater were behind the film’s music.
A retelling of the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel fairytale, Tangled (2010) grossed over $590 million worldwide and received an Oscar nomination for original song, “I See The Light.” Moana (2016) is also getting the live-action treatment with the Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia-starring film arriving in theaters in July.
