Rihanna Home Shooter Charged With Attempted Murder

After Ivana Lisette Ortiz was arrested for firing approximately ten shots at Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home using an AR-15-style weapon on March 8, a number of the alleged shooter’s disturbing social-media posts began circulating online in which the 35-year-old referenced the singer by name. It comes as little surprise, then, that Ortiz’s prosecutors have filed a criminal complaint against Ortiz referring to the shooting as “willful, deliberate, and premeditated.” According to the complaint obtained by People, Ortiz, a Florida resident, allegedly went to Rihanna’s home with the intent to murder the singer. In addition to this attempted murder charge, Ortiz is being charged with “10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm” and “three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.” She is currently being held on $1.875 million bail.

Although one bullet from the shooting penetrated the walls of Rihanna’s house, no one was injured in the incident — this includes Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky, and their three children; her mother; and two staff members who were present at the time. Ortiz’s legal team, the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, initially entered a plea of “not guilty” on Ortiz’s behalf during a March 10 court appearance but later chose to postpone the arraignment until March 25 and withdrew this plea. If convicted, Ortiz could serve life in prison.
