Braga have advanced to the Europa League round of 16 without a great deal of fanfare, but they are among the genuine contenders for the trophy and can take another positive step by defeating Ferencvaros in Budapest.
Attracting attention is an ongoing challenge for Braga, who are often eclipsed by heavyweight domestic rivals Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
However, they were Europa League finalists in 2011 – losing 1-0 to Porto – and fared well in this season’s League Phase where they registered five wins, two draws and one defeat.
Braga’s Europa League challenge started in the second qualifying round and they remain unbeaten on their European travels – posting four wins and three draws.
Braga conceded just five goals across the league phase and their solid defence can underpin a victory over Ferencvaros, who are aiming to reach the competition’s final eight for the first time since 1972.
The Hungarian side have made great strides under Robbie Keane, but they were beaten 4-0 at Nottingham Forest on matchday eight of the league phase and may struggle to cope with Braga, who seem to have the edge in terms of quality and experience.
