Live updates: Suspect dead after ramming vehicle into Detroit-area synagogue, sheriff says

Lawmakers and other officials are condemning the violent attack at a synagogue in Michigan, in which a suspect rammed their vehicle into the place of worship today.
Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens, who represents West Bloomfield, where the synagogue is located, said she is “getting reports in real time.”
“To the Jewish American community in Michigan and beyond, we stand with you,” she said in a post on X.
Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan called the reports of the incident “horrifying.”
“No one should face violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship,” Tlaib said.
At the US Capitol, Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin told reporters she grew up “not far” from the synagogue and knew it very well.
Slotkin said she was “so sick” of incidents like the one unfolding in West Bloomfield and said acts of antisemitism, violence and hate “should be treated to the fullest extent of the law.”
In other states: California Gov. Gavin Newsom said his state is working with law enforcement to protect local Jewish communities.
“Antisemitism is disgusting. My heart is with the Jewish community in Michigan today,” he said on X.
