LAS VEGAS, Nevada. – The UNM men’s basketball team is in Nevada for the Mountain West Conference, aiming for the title. They take on the San Jose State Spartans Thursday night.

Devin J. Martin and Kenny Thomas are covering the event from the Thomas and Mack Center. This is Thomas’ first tournament as part of the media team, and he shared his excitement about being involved with Lobo basketball again.

“This is my first Mountain West Conference tournament, and without being a player, so the experience is interesting,” said Thomas.

There’s a strong presence of Lobo fans in Las Vegas, adding to the atmosphere. A recent alumni event, organized by Ryan Berriman, also drew significant attendance.

“There’s definitely a lot of Lobo fans that have just showed up. Yeah, that’s the blessing part of it and being able to be a part of this environment,” said Thomas.

NCAA tournament implications

Thursday night’s game is crucial for the Lobos’ NCAA tournament chances. Winning the first game is essential for gaining momentum in the tournament.

“Oh, it’s a must-win. It’s one of those games to where you have to win in the first game,” said Thomas.

The Lobos may face tough opponents like San Diego State and Colorado State in subsequent games. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
