Bengals find Joe Burrow’s new backup in free agency

The Cincinnati Bengals added help in free agency over the weekend by signing quarterback Josh Johnson.

Johnson, 39, played for the Bengals in 2013 and will come in and provide veteran snaps behind Joe Burrow.

A fifth-round pick from 2008, Johnson spent last year with the Washington Commanders and became the starter in December.

The Bengals would likely still welcome Joe Flacco back, given what happened last year after trading for him. But he’s content to wait for a chance to compete for a starting job with another team, a wait that could extend far into the summer.
