Math and dessert enthusiasts celebrate Pi Day to honor the digits

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Math and dessert enthusiasts united on Saturday to celebrate March 14, national Pi Day, which represents the first three digits of the mathematical constant “pi.”
Pi represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, a number approximately equal to 3.14159; however, its digits continue forever. However, students at school may use pi to calculate the area of a circle or the volume of a cylinder.
The national day was first created in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw at the Exploratorium Science Museum in San Francisco. When the holiday was first celebrated, it began as a small staff celebration that featured pies.
