Math and dessert enthusiasts celebrate Pi Day to honor the digits

Math and dessert enthusiasts united on Saturday to celebrate March 14, national Pi Day, which represents the first three digits of the mathematical constant “pi.”

Pi represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, a number approximately equal to 3.14159; however, its digits continue forever. However, students at school may use pi to calculate the area of a circle or the volume of a cylinder.

The national day was first created in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw at the Exploratorium Science Museum in San Francisco. When the holiday was first celebrated, it began as a small staff celebration that featured pies.
