FIRST ALERT: Severe storms expected Monday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A strong cold front is forecast to sweep across the Lowcountry, bringing a severe weather threat to the region on Monday.

The Live 5 First Alert Weather team has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Monday because of the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms.

There will be a risk of hit-or-miss storms Monday morning, some of which may be strong to severe. Storms will become more numerous during the afternoon, and some of these storms will also be strong to severe. The main concern with thunderstorms on Monday is the threat of damaging winds, but there is also a threat of brief, spin-up tornadoes. While some storms may produce heavy rain, the risk of flash flooding is low due to the fast-moving nature of the storms.

In the meantime, hit-or-miss storms are also possible Sunday. There is a low-end risk of a few stronger to severe storms. The main threat with Sunday’s thunderstorm activity is damaging wind gusts.

MONDAY: First Alert Weather Day for scattered storms. Windy. High: 76°. Low: 36°.

TUESDAY: Patchy morning frost. Partly to mostly sunny and blustery. High: 56°. Low: 34°.
