With reigning WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley currently on the shelf due to a knee injury, WWE is introducing an Interim WWE Women’s Title this weekend at SummerSlam. But was the women’s locker room annoyed with the development of WWE using an “interim” title over Ripley vacating the title due to injury, as has normally been the case? Sean Ross Sapp answered a fan question on the reaction to the development in the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A.
According to Sapp, he hasn’t “really heard anything negative” regarding WWE opting to create an interim title for the division, and there hasn’t been any “eye rolling or anything like that.”
Although the decision has met criticism from fans, Sapp noted that the roster “seemed happy” about the five-way ladder match to crown a new Interim Women’s Champion.
The Ladder Match to crown a new champion goes down tomorrow at Summerslam 2026: Night 2. It will feature Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill vs. Chelsea Green vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Lash Legend.
The premium live event is being held later this weekend at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It will air live on the ESPN App in the U.S., and on Netflix internationally.
