The New York Jets had their chance to make a move.

On March 9, the Indianapolis Colts struck a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts traded away veteran wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr and a 2026 seventh-round pick (No. 230 overall) in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 214 overall), per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Trade terms: Steelers now have acquired WR Michael Pittman Jr. and a 2026 seventh-round pick (230th overall) from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick (214th overall).

For such a low price, Jets fans naturally wondered on social media why their team didn’t get involved.

According to NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY, the Jets had absolutely no interest in making that move.

“Alec Pierce returned back to the Colts. Michael Pittman was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. From my understanding, there was no interest from the Jets in trading for Michael Pittman. It was not something they were looking to do,” Hughes explained on “Jets Final Drive.”

The Jets Are Interested in Adding a Pass Catcher

While the Jets had no interest in Pittman, that doesn’t mean they don’t want to add a receiver.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini told Gary Myers on “The Saturday Huddle” that he expects the Jets to add receiver help this offseason.

“Yeah, I don’t think Adonai Mitchell is going to be the No. 2. That was a good pickup to get him in the Sauce Gardner trade. They’re gonna add someone. They’re gonna add two people. I mean, they’re a little thin at receiver. I do believe they will sign a veteran,” Cimini told Myers on ESPN Radio in New York.

Cimini doesn’t believe that general manager Darren Mougey will “spend money” at the wide receiver position, though.

“It would run counter to what Darren Mougey has been really doing … The last couple of days have been one-year contracts. We are at that stage of free agency … They will get a veteran to come in,” Cimini added.

He also strongly believes that the Jets will use one of their top four draft picks, which all reside inside the top-44, on a wide receiver.

“It may even be at the 16th pick,” Cimini said.

Insider Says WR Is the Team’s Biggest Remaining Hole

Every writer for The Athletic was asked what their beat’s biggest need is after the first wave of free agency.

Zack Rosenblatt wrote, “Wide receiver is the easy answer here. The Jets have been trying to find some consistency opposite Garrett Wilson ever since he came into the NFL.”

“The Jets need to add at least one more quality wide receiver — and probably more than one. Mitchell, for all his talent, should not be the no-doubt No. 2 receiver going into the season. The Jets, according to team sources, went into free agency not planning to invest at the position since that often leads to significant overpays. They will wait and see if anyone interesting falls through the cracks at minimal cost,” Rosenblatt explained.
