High winds tonight, damaging gusts, wet snow & a flash freeze Monday PM & night

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Our weather can be summed up into one word over the next 24 to 36 hours: ACTIVE.
Here’s my timeline of genuine weather concerns between now and Tuesday morning:
TIMELINE OF WEATHER CONCERNS
From now until 8 AM Monday we have Wind Advisories in effect for most of CNY due to general high wind gusts increasing and lasting through the night.
The reason for high winds overnight is to a large difference in barometric pressure between high pressure to our east and low pressure to our west.
The best analogy for the high southerly winds tonight is comparing it to when you open a bottle or can of a carbonated beverage. The release of pressure and movement of air from inside the can to outside of it is what’s happening in the atmosphere. This movement of air we call it wind.
Beyond the overnight, we then will be focusing on the low to moderate potential for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon along the cold front above. Ahead of this front temperatures will warm well into the 60s, but with any bonus sun that comes out and stays out, 70 degrees will be possible and that could allow for even a higher chance of storms becoming severe.
SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL MONDAY
There will be a ton of high wind energy happening in the mid and upper atmosphere on Monday. With any thunderstorms that develop along the cold front coming through CNY anytime between 2 PM and 8 PM, downdrafts in the storms could potentially pull down the higher gusts to the surface causing straight-line damaging gusts up to or exceeding 60 mph. This level of wind gusts could knock down some trees and powerlines leading to some power outages.
There are also some factors in our computer models that indicate the potential for some spin or rotation of winds with height that could cause a few isolated tornadoes. Be sure to have our newly updated Weather Authority app on your phone with the alert notifications turned on so you’ll be informed in real time if you get a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado warning in your area.
SNOWFALL FORECAST MONDAY NIGHT
SNOWFALL FORECAST MONDAY NIGHT ZOOMED IN CNY
Beyond Monday afternoon some wet snow will begin behind the cold front and temperatures will drop in a dramatic way into Tuesday morning that could allow for a FLASH FREEZE of wet surfaces to become ICY including roads. bridges, sidewalks, driveways and parking lots.
DRAMATIC TEMPERATURE CHANGE MONDAY TO TUESDAY
Let’s track the general wind gusts for tonight then track temperatures and severe storms for Monday afternoon:
FUTURE GUSTS 330 AM MONDAY
FUTURE GUSTS 11 AM MONDAY
The high gusts overnight may keep you from sleeping as well as usual or possibly wake you up before your alarm clock does Tuesday morning.
Now let’s focus on how warm it will get plus when some severe storms could impact your town or village:
After all of that active weather mentioned we look to be much quieter for Wednesday afternoon through the weekend as we end winter and begin the spring season.
