The Magpies visit their Tyneside neighbours for their first public outing of the summer, with head coach Eddie Howe expected to hand minutes to a host of players as they step up their preparations for the new campaign.
Their line-up at the Gateshead International Stadium is largely an experienced one, with summer recruit Steur in the 11 alongside Fabian Schär, Harvey Barnes and goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Jacob Murphy captains United, whose side also features Jacob Ramsey, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock, while young trio Alex Murphy, Leo Shahar and Sean Neave also have a chance to impress.
It is a youthful bench, with a host of academy products expected to play a part against Lee Cattermole’s men. They include Dylan Charlton, Luke Craggs, Anthony Munda, Trevan Sanusi, Matheos Ferreira, Rory Finneran and Mason Miley.
Seung-soo Park – who featured for Howe’s side during pre-season last summer – is also on the bench along with Miodrag Pivaš and Vakhtang Salia, while three goalkeepers provide backup in the shape of Ewen Jaouen, Mark Gillespie and Aidan Harris.
