Huge Eid ul Fitr 2026 celebrations announced by leading UK mosque in Birmingham

A leading UK mosque in Birmingham has made an Eid 2026 announcement to worshippers. Each year, Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC) traditionally holds a huge outdoor event for Eid ul Fitr, the first major festivity of the Islamic calendar.
GLMCC traditionally sets the date in accordance with news from Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites and the location of the Hajj pilgrimage at the time of the later Eid ul Adha, the second Eid in the calendar.
The mosque says it is preparing to celebrate Eid ul Fitr 2026 either on Thursday, March 19, or Friday, March 20, 2026, depending on confirmed reports of a moon sighting in Saudi Arabia later today (March 18).

It will be holding prayers in Small Heath Park on whichever day is declared for Eid. Worshippers are uged to arrive from 8.15am for the Eid prayer at 9am. The Robert Wilkinson Funfair will be in the park from 10am to 9pm on Eid day so families can enjoy the rides as part of the festivities.
Birmingham’s massive Eid celebrations grew to become the biggest in Europe, with over 100,000 people attending to set the record in 2018 as people came from far and wide to join the local congregation.
GLMCC has issued the following instructions to all those wishing to attend the park event:
-
Arrive early as prayers will start at 9am sharp and organisers will not wait for latecomers.
-
Bring your own prayer mats (and plastic sheet to put underneath), chairs, and water bottles for ablution
-
Try to walk to the park or car share, to avoid congestion around the site
-
Do not park inconsiderately. Parking at Morrisons, Small Heath, is free and not time-limited. Do not park on double yellow lines or block residents’ driveways and footpaths.
-
Do not leave children unsupervised. Children are encouraged to come to the park as long as they are supervised by their parents and come to participate in prayers.
-
Do not drop litter. Use the park bins or take your rubbish home.
In case of bad weather, Eid ul Fitr prayers will be held indoors at Green Lane Masjid, staggered over several sessions to deal with the expected number of people. Prayers will be hourly, at 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am and 11am.
GLMCC said in a statement: “As we plan Eid ul Fitr, we reflect back on the incredible work and generosity seen in Ramadan. GLMCC this year donated over 60 gifts for children at Heartlands Hospital. Our Eid Smiles project collected brand new, original packaged toys for children aged up to 16, donated by parents of GLMCC’s madrasa.
“or the second year, our welfare team supported cancer patients during the month of Ramadan by providing iftar (meal to break the fast) every Thursday. Patients and their careers, Muslims and non, were invited to GLMCC to open their fasts.
“One attendee commented that this was the first time she’s been out with her family since the diagnosis and treatment. Over 40 people attended each Thursday. We will be hosting an Eid Party for cancer patients on April 5, 2026.
“In addition, GLMCC provided free iftar for hundreds of worshippers every day during Ramadan, and with a new initiative to reduce food waste, GLMCC introduced biodegradable food packs containing dates, fresh bread, fruit and yoghurt with a spice mix.
“We pray that our worship is accepted and that we are granted the opportunity to experience and benefit from Ramadan 2027. We extend our sincere gratitude to all our congregation, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support.
“We also pray for a joyous Eid al-Fitr, filled with time spent among family and friends, and for hearts to remain engaged in the remembrance of God with gratitude and devotion.”
