The Chicago Bears continue to stockpile depth players on the defensive side of the ball. On Wednesday, the team agreed to a one-year deal with former Tennessee Titans defensive tackle James Lynch. The news was first reported by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Terms of the deal have not yet been revealed.
Lynch began his career with the Minnesota Vikings as a 2020 fourth-round pick and played three seasons as a reserve defensive tackle. His best year came in 2022 when he totaled 30 tackles (two for loss), one sack, and a fumble recovery. Prior to the 2023 season, Lynch suffered a torn ACL and missed the entire year.

In 2024, Lynch signed with the Titans and spent the last two seasons there. In 2025, he played all 17 games and had 25 tackles (one for loss), half a sack, and a pass breakup as a rotational lineman.
Lynch will serve a similar role with the Bears, competing with fellow free agent signees Kentavius Street and Neville Gallimore for playing time behind Gervon Dexter and Grady Jarrett. General manager Ryan Poles has opted to sign depth players on the defensive line rather than swing for an impact player up to this point as the Bears defense continues to undergo a face lift.
