Forecast: Frost advisory, freeze warnings issued

Freeze warnings and frost advisories have been issued for areas near Ocala, Dunellon, and Gainesville as a cold air crosses Florida Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Temperatures could dip into the 30s and 40s in those areas. Orlando should stay in the 40s and 50s. 

After severe thunderstorms pushed through Orlando and Central Florida on Monday afternoon, a cold front dropped temperatures overnight into Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will again dip into the 30s and 40s across Orlando and Central Florida from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Here’s where, when, and how cold it will get.  

A frost advisory has been issued for parts of Marion County from 3 a.m. – 9 a.m. A freeze warning has been issued for parts of Marion, Alachua, and Gilchrist counties, from 3 a.m. – 9 p.m. due to temperatures forecast to drop into the 30s for several hours.

How cold will it get tonight in Orlando?

Temperatures in the Orlando metro will stay within the 40s, while parts of The Villages, Ocala, and Gainesville will dip into the high 30s. Cocoa Beach and Melbourne should stay in the upper 40s and 50s.

How cold will temperatures be on Wednesday morning?

Temperatures will be in the 40s for most of Orlando and the metro. Though, DeLand, The Villages, Ocala, and Gainesville could dip into the 30s.

 Daytona Beach sets cold record for St. Patrick’s Day 

St. Patrick’s Day set a new cold record for March, 17. The low was 58 degrees, breaking the previous record of 59 degrees set in 1962.

Orlando, Sanford, and Melbourne tied their daily records.

Why is it so cold? 

What we know:

A powerful cold front moved through Central Florida on Monday afternoon, bringing strong storms, wind, rain, and a big drop in temperatures. A brisk northerly wind has helped to usher in cooler and drier air, giving way temperatures near record levels, just not for the heat.

How long will the cold last? 

Temperatures will be chilly Wednesday morning, but will warm up into the 60s and 70s.
