Remarkable West Brom ticket update for Easter Monday trip to Blackburn with just 1,000 left to snap up on general sale

James Morrison’s Baggies travel to Ewood Park on April 6 knowing a success at the home of their rivals could go a big way to securing second tier status.

The clash has captured the attention of Albion supporters who sought to take advantage of a Bank Holiday and the opportunity of a large away allocation behind the goal in Lancashire.

Rovers, who are currently 19th and one place above Albion on goal difference, agreed to open up the entire Darwen End stand to away supporters after talks between the two clubs.

That meant an initial allocation of 4,400 would be increased up to a possible 7,396.

And Albion supporters are well on their way to filling the entire end in Lancashire as the club provided an update of 6,400 ticket sales on Monday night after Morrison’s side were victorious at Bristol City over the weekend.

Monday morning also saw the final 1,000 tickets go on general sale to all supporters who do not have a certain tally of points or are members.

Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone or from The Hawthorns.

The remaining tickets are expected to fly off the shelves to support Morrison’s resurgent troops up the M6 in a giant sell-out allocation for one of the club’s largest away followings in years.

There has been some hit back from Blackburn fans about offering direct rivals the opportunity of a huge allocation for such a critical fixture.

On Saturday, around 7,000 Middlesbrough away fans filled the Darwen End at Ewood Park to watch a goalless draw as the high-flyers from the north east were held and lost ground in the race for automatic promotion.

Blackburn are under the management of Michael O’Neil – who is balancing the role with his duties as Northern Ireland national boss.

Above the 19th-placed Rovers is a five-point gap to Charlton on 48 points. It has generally been considered that two from five out of Blackburn, Albion, Portsmouth, Leicester and Oxford will join Sheffield Wednesday in relegation to League One.
