More frozen food products sold at Trader Joe’s are being recalled in 43 states — including Rhode Island and Massachusetts — because they may contain “foreign objects” including glass, according to a recent notice from the US Food and Drug Administration.
Foods sold at Rhode Island Trader Joe’s stores in Providence and Warwick are included in the recall.
The recalled foods could contain pieces of glass from 1 to 3 centimeters long, according to the FDA.
Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., of Portland, Ore., first announced a recall of 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products on Feb. 19. It has since expanded the recall twice to include nearly 37 million pounds of ready-to-eat and not ready-to-eat chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products sold at Trader Joe’s and Kroger stores.

Anyone with these Ajinomoto Foods at home should discard them right away, according to Joseph Wendelken, a spokesman for the Rhode Island Department of Health.
“Recalls of frozen foods are always a concern, because, unlike fresh foods, people may forget about having purchased these products a while ago and have them in the back of the freezer,” he said.
The state department of health posts food recalls on its social media accounts, and information on food safety can be found online at health.ri.gov/food-safety. Additional recalls can be found on the FDA website at fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
An FDA enforcement action on March 20 added more than 400,000 cases of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice to the recall.
The list of recalled items includes:
- Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai chicken and vegetable dumplings.
- Ling Ling Restaurant Style Fried Rice Yakitori Chicken with chicken and vegetables.
- Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with rice, vegetables, chicken and eggs.
- Ajinomoto Japanese-Style Yakitori Chicken Fried Rice Char Grilled Chicken with chicken and vegetables.
- Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice Poulet Yakitori Avec Riz Frit À La Japanaise with chicken and vegetables.
- Ajinomoto Fried Rice Authentic Japanese Style Yakitori Chicken / Ajinomoto Riz Frit De Style Japonaise Authentique Poulet Yakitori with chicken and vegetables.
- Ajinomoto Japanese-Style Kurobuta Pork Fried Rice with pork, vegetables and eggs.
- Ajinomoto Tokyo Style Shoyu (Soy Sauce) Ramen With Chicken and vegetables.
- Ling Ling Tokyo-Style Ramen Shoyu Chicken with vegetables.
- Ajinomoto De Style Tokyo Ramen À La Shoyu (Sauce Soya) Avec Poulet.
