A number of businesses and events in Merseyside have been forced to stay closed as high winds hit the region. Weather conditions are set to turn colder and wetter this week.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates said: “After a spell of mild and brighter weather, the UK will turn increasingly unsettled in the coming days. A series of weather fronts will bring periods of rain, strong winds and much colder air by midweek. Wednesday could be quite a shock to the system.

“Temperatures will range from 6C to 10C, but it will feel closer to low single figures for many areas in the wind. Wintry showers are likely, especially over higher ground in the north, and a widespread frost – with icy patches for some – is possible on Wednesday night. It should be a little milder again by the end of the week, with many areas seeing another spell of rain on Friday.”

Stanley Park Market was cancelled today (March 25) over health and safety concerns due to forecasted high winds.

The market is set to return on April 1, with 100 stalls offering clothing, homeware, fresh products and more.

Speke Hall shared a post with its Instagram followers on Tuesday evening (March 24) stating it would be closed due to the weather.

The post reads: “Speke Hall will be closed tomorrow Wednesday 25 March due to high winds.

“The grounds have several areas of ancient woodland tree lined pathways, which in high winds carry the risk of being damaged and of causing damage to their surroundings.

“With that in mind, we have a high winds policy which was created to ensure that our visitors, staff and volunteers all remain safe during times of increased risk.

“If the storms cause wind speeds which are anticipated to reach the high winds policy threshold, we then close the property to ensure the safety of everyone on our site.

“Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. We will hopefully reopen on Thursday following our post storm checks.”

Cornhill Coffee has been forced to stay closed due to high winds on Liverpool’s Dock Road.

Their post reads: “Guys, so sorry. We won’t be opening the van today. The winds along the Dock Road are 49mph which is unsafe for the van to be open.”

The ECHO will update the story if any further cancellations take place.
