‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’ & ‘Chicago Med’ Renewed For 2026-27

NBC has kicked off its drama series renewals with a collective pickup of the OneChicago franchise, from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

Mothership Chicago Fire has been renewed for Season 15, Chicago P.D. for Season 14 and Chicago Med for Season 12. All three are set to return in fall 2026, likely on the franchise’s signature OneChicago Wednesday night.

The renewal, which had been fully expected, follows the recent March 4 Chicago crossover, which boosted each of the three series to season highs in total viewers, with social video views up +75% vs. the 2025 crossover.

It comes earlier than last year’s OneChicago renewal which went down to the wire with the network and studio going back and forth on budget cuts that resulted in, among other things, the three shows’ orders being trimmed from 22 to 21 episodes this season and cast members across multiple series departing.

If the early pickup is any indication, the trims may not be as substantial this year. The number of episodes the three shows will produce next season is still TBD.

Per usual, with the renewals in the bag, OneChicago will have to secure some veteran cast members whose contracts are up this season. Last year, the list included Chicago Fire lead Taylor Kinney; this year, it is said to include Chicago Med lead S. Epatha Merkerson. Like Kinney last year, she is expected to continue.

More than a decade in, OneChicago remains a strong performer both on linear and streaming, with the three shows a regular presence in Peacock’s Top 10 in-season.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., which chronicle the professional and personal lives of Chicago first responders, are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.

They join the previously renewed NBC sophomore comedies St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place, with pickups for Wolf Entertainment’s Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order pending.
