Police shooting forces closure of I-15 in Murray; ‘significant delays’ expected

MURRAY — A shooting involving a police officer has prompted an hourslong closure of northbound I-15 between Murray and South Salt Lake on Friday afternoon, Utah Highway Patrol said.
UHP Sgt. Andrew Battenfield did not release details of the incident, other than that the shooting involved an officer near the 3300 South exit on I-15.
Drivers are being forced to exit the freeway at 4500 South or to seek alternative routes like I-215 or State Street due to the incident, the Utah Department of Transportation said.
Battenfield said drivers can expect the freeway to be closed for “several hours.”
UDOT said in a post on its X account that the road should reopen about 10 p.m.
