The M1 in Leicestershire has been closed in both directions due to what is being described as a “police-led incident”.
Leicestershire Police said the motorway was shut in both directions at the Leicester Forest East services between J21 and 21a on Saturday afternoon.
National Highways said other emergency services and its own officers were also on the scene “to assist with traffic management and strategic closures”.
Long tailbacks have been reported on the motorway as well as congestion on surrounding routes.
