FSU’s Myles Bailey suffers major injury against Duke Blue Devils

FSU star first baseman Myles Bailey had to be stretchered off the field Saturday during their game against the Duke Blue Devils at Dick Howser Stadium.

Bailey was intentionally walked in the bottom of the eighth inning, putting runners on the corners with two outs and the game tied at 11-11. The Duke pitcher tried to pick him off first, but the throw got away, allowing Bailey to take off for second and Carter McCulley to score from third.

Bailey slid late into second base and immediately called for time and never stood up after an apparent ankle injury. FSU’s medical staff quickly brought out a stretcher for him and put his right leg in an air cast. You can find videos of the play on the internet, but it is gruesome.

Bailey waved to the crowd while he was stretchered off the field and into a waiting ambulance.

He has been FSU’s top player this season, emerging as one of the best first basemen in the country. The Tallahassee native hit his 13th homer of the season earlier in the game to tie it up. He is hitting .363 this season with a .883 slugging percentage and 33 RBI. He has walked 35 times this season, with teams consistently pitching around him and intentionally walking him 10 times.
