Sami Zayn is the new United States champion, but he needed help to win it

During tonight’s (Mar. 27) episode of SmackDown, GM Nick Aldis sadly informed Sami Zayn that due to his prolonged slump, there are no plans to book him in a match next month at WrestleMania 42. Sami told Nick it doesn’t matter, he’s going to find a way to get on the card at WWE’s biggest show of the year.
Zayn didn’t waste much time concocting a plan to deliver on those words. When United States Champion Carmelo Hayes entered the ring during the second hour of the broadcast to issue his weekly open challenge for the belt, Zayn was the first man out to answer the call. I wonder if Melo could hear the clock ticking on his title reign when that happened.
Trick Williams was ringside for the match, because he never misses the chance to get a close up look at Zayn being a loser. But just when things were getting exciting and Zayn got a near fall on the Blue Thunder Bomb, Trick decided he needed to get involved. He grabbed the US title and tried to blast Sami, but he hit Carmelo instead. One Helluva Kick later, and Sami Zayn is the new United States champion.
After the match was over, Aldis congratulated Zayn and said he’s defending the US title against Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42.
