Tuolumne County Dove Fire prompts evacuations near Sonora

Mandatory evacuations are in place as the Dove Fire burns 223 acres in Tuolumne County near Sonora and Jamestown.
As of 8 p.m., Cal Fire reported that fire activity had decreased as night fell on the area. Air and ground crews were also making progress against the flames, officials said.
Mandatory evacuation orders were still in place for McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Crooked Lane, Southgate Road, Stockton Road and Silver Pine Lane, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.
The orders also cover the south side of Mono Way from Greenley Road to Washington Street, Golden Dove, The Silos on Washington Street to Hospital Road, and Beretta Street from Washington, Restano and Mono to Lyons Road.
Evacuation warnings remain in place for South Washington Street to Barretta Street, Martha Lane, Outlook Drive, South Stewart Street, South Shepherd Street, Beretta Street and Washington Street from Highway 108 to the Red Church at Shell Street.
Highway 108 is closed between Wigwam Road and Mono Way. Other closures include Stockton Road at Woodside, Washington Street from Highway 108 to the Red Church, Mono Way from Greenley Road into downtown Sonora, Snell Street, Bonanza Road and Pesce Way.

The Tuolumne Community Resilience Center at 18241 Bay Ave. in Tuolumne is open as an evacuation center. A temporary animal evacuation shelter is also open at Tuolumne County Animal Control at 10040 Victoria Way in Jamestown, while large animals can be taken to the Posse Grounds at 19130 Rawhide Road in Jamestown.
Deputies are urging anyone in the area who feels unsafe to leave without waiting for an evacuation order. People are also being asked to avoid the area while emergency crews respond.
The fire is burning in the Mill Villa area southwest of downtown Sonora, near Highway 108 and Stockton Road and just northeast of Jamestown.
