Kelvin and Liz Fletcher issued a sad update to viewers on the latest episode of their ITV reality show, Fletchers’ Family Farm.

A fresh episode of Season 4 aired on Sunday (March 29) and showed their Peak District farm blanketed in snow in the middle of winter.

In the latest instalment, viewers received a heartbreaking update following the death of the family’s beloved cow, Cherry, which had previously been featured on the show. Her passing meant six-month-old calf Ezra was left without a mother before he had been fully weaned.

Since the unexpected death, the family have kept Ezra under careful observation in their barn, but Liz gave a sad update as she admitted she thought he still looked “a little lost.”

“He’s done really well. It was quite brutal how he was parted from his mum,” she started. “I do feel there’s a look in his eye that he’s a little lost.”

Despite some concern for his welfare, Kelvin revealed there was still hope for the young animal, as one of the other calves had been looking out for him. He revealed: “Thankfully in Cherry’s absence, Ruby’s young calf Elizabeth has been keeping an eye on Ezra.”

Liz added: “Elizabeth has been kind to him to be fair hasn’t she? It’s like she knew and has been his little partner.”

Discussing Ezra’s future at the farm, Kelvin shared that they would keep him in the barn a little longer before allowing him to join the other male cows. He explained: “As Ezra gets a little bit bigger, he’ll probably stay in the shed for at least another month or so.

“What we’ll do then is put him in with the boys. He’ll go into a pen next door and join Crowther and Ray, then we’ve got three males that are all intact and it just allows us to be focussed a little bit more then on Ruby [their pregnant cow].”

Elsewhere in the episode, Kelvin and Liz decided to throw their very first farmers’ market. Donating the proceeds to charity and waiving pitch fees for vendors, the couple were shown preparing for the event hosted at their farm.

Liz, Kelvin and their four children are now in their fifth year of farming, but the venture has been far from easy. Last year, a catastrophic fire broke out at the farm, leaving their home uninhabitable.

The incident was covered on their ITV show, and Liz and Kelvin were shown on camera sifting through their damaged belongings to see what was salvageable. Thankfully more than a year after the blaze, the family were able to return.

All episodes of Fletchers’ Family Farm can be viewed on demand via ITVX.
