Two Records Fall To Highlight Solid Performances at Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. – McKinley Fielding and Sage Vavro set distance school records as the Penguins competed at the Raleigh Relays which concluded on Saturday at the Paul Derr Track and Field Complex.
On Thursday, Vavro broke a nearly 17-year-old school record in the steeplechase while late on Friday evening, Fielding lowered her school mark in the 10,000m by more than a half a minute. YSU also had numerous top 10 school performances to open the year.
Vavro clocked a time of 8:47.06 in the steeplechase to break a mark that had stood since May 2009 – 8:49.25. His previous best was 9:08.65.
Fielding ran a 10K race of 34:02.56 which crushed her previous top time of 34:33.09 set in March 2025.
Kaitlyn Eger won the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.02m. Her previous outdoor best was 3.85m which she had in May 2024.
Lea Parham clocked a time of 14.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles. That was a personal best by Parham and ranks her ninth in school history.
Caleigh Richards had a time of 16:50.79 in the 5,000m, which moved her up to fourth in program history. Her previous fastest time was 17:01.94. Jenna Razavi had a personal-best time of 17:08.15 which moves her into sixth in program history and was 13 seconds better than her previous best.
In the 400m Tori Atkins recorded a time of 55.61 seconds in her debut which ranks her fourth in YSU history. Melody Harloff had a personal-best time of 55.93 seconds which is now ninth in school history.
In her outdoor debut, Ava Reeves ran a time of 12.06 seconds in the 100m while Atkins had a time of 24.75 seconds in the 200m.
The women were ninth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.39 seconds.
The men had an impressive performance in the triple jump with a pair of Penguins jumping over 14.50m. In his YSU debut, Brayden Green had a leap of 14.78m which ranks third in school history and was just 0.03m off second. Emmanuel Asabere had a leap of 14.64m and is good enough for sixth in program history.
Jaden Kirkwood was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 17.07m. That career-best heave ranks him eighth in program history.
In the running events, Connor Shingleton had a time of 3:49.09 which moves him into fifth in program history.
Caedeon Trotter had two top-10 times in program history at the meet. His time of 10.51 seconds in the 100m ties Carl Zallow for eighth. Hit team of 21.31 seconds in the 200m ranks as the ninth-fastest time.
Micah Mitchell opened his hurdle season with a time of 14.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 53.07 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
YSU posted a time of 41.51 seconds in the 4x100m which placed 13th.
The Penguins return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock.
