Senators sign Kevin Reidler to two-year, entry-level contract

The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Kevin Reidler to a two-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Monday morning.

Reidler, 21, posted an 11-7-0 record with a 3.31 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in 18 games with the Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2025-26 season.

The Senators originally selected Reidler in the fifth round (No. 151 overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Gavle, Sweden product will join the AHL’s Belleville Senators on an amateur tryout deal for the rest of the year before his ELC takes effect with the 2026-27 season.

Under the leadership of former general manager Pierre Dorion, the Senators drafted Reidler out of the AIK system in his native Sweden. The 6’6″ netminder went 14-16-0 with a .911 save percentage in 32 games with AIK’s U20 club in the 2022-23 season before coming to North America the following year.

Reidler began his North American career with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints, going 27-5-6 with three shutouts and a .902 save percentage in 39 games with the club in the 2023-24 season. He was also named to Team Sweden for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, although he did not play.

After beginning his NCAA career as the backup to Simon Latkoczy at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2024-25, Reidler transferred to Penn State for his sophomore year and played in a tandem role with Joshua Fleming, who took on more of a share in the responsibilities as the season went along.

Reidler joins the Senators organization amidst something of a transitional period in their goaltending ranks. Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard are both set to become RFAs with arbitration rights after this season, with no guarantee that the Senators tender either a qualifying offer. As it stands, Linus Ullmark, Jackson Parsons, and Reidler are the only Senators goaltenders with contracts for the 2026-27 campaign.
