Penguins’ Crosby IN; Malkin OUT (Updated)

ELMONT, N.Y. — The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without at least one of their core players Monday when they visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.
The team announced during the morning skate that Evgeni Malkin would miss the game. However, the other news is … no news yet.
UPDATE: Minutes before warmup, the Penguins announced Crosby would be in the lineup.
Penguins coach Dan Muse indicated Sidney Crosby and other injured Penguins, such as Noel Acciari, were not yet confirmed to play. Muse said he would speak with the medical staff before making any decisions.
Bryan Rust, who missed practice Sunday, took part in the optional morning skate. Neither Crosby nor Acciari skated.
Monday morning, the team recalled Avery Hayes from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Update 2: Hayes confirmed to reporters that he would play.
Crosby is on the trip with the team. He suffered a lower-body injury in the first period against the Ottawa Senators Thursday.
After blocking a shot, Acciari appeared to be hurt on Saturday on the Dallas Stars’ third goal. He was hunched over and out of the play as Jason Robertson scored a power play goal.
Update 3: Acciari took warmup.
The Penguins trail the Islanders by one point in the Metro Division with one game in hand. The Penguins have nine games remaining, but according to MoneyPuck.com, a regulation loss would reduce their playoff chances by 13%, down to just 57%.
