Life With a Newborn: Bobby Talks Baby Milestones and Adjustments

Bobby shared a few baby Billie updates!

They are now able to walk baby Billie in a pouch, and noted that it was the best. He had been nervous she was too small since she’s a newborn, but were told anything eight pounds and up is fine, and she’s just over eight pounds now. Bobby admitted he feels nervous about it because the baby is pressed up and hard to fully see, and he worries she’s not breathing right, which is his biggest concern. Bobby said they have something he thinks is called an “Owlet” that goes on the baby’s ankle at night. He compared it to an Oura ring but for a baby. He shared that she’s now sleeping six hours, and the device tracks breathing, alerts them if she cries, and works alongside cameras. He said his wife is the one constantly checking it, waking up often to make sure everything is okay. They went for a walk using the pouch and it was good, though he prefers the stroller. Bobby understands the pouch is useful in places where a stroller is hard to manage, like a game, and that it allows you to use your arms for things like getting a drink or food. Still, he said he can do that with a stroller too, explaining how the brake locks in place.

Bobby also shared that their pediatrician advised them not to let people come over and get close to the baby if they’ve been on an airplane, are sick, or are bringing kids. He mentioned it’s allergy season with a lot of pollen, and said people have been respectful, choosing not to come if they’re sick. He noted that Eddie and his wife waited until they were better before coming over and staying for a while. He noticed that when his guy friends like Brett come over, they’ll sit for a while but not go near the baby. Bobby observed that men tend to avoid touching the baby, comparing it to looking at a car wreck slowly, while women want to be close and interact more. He admitted he used to feel the same way about babies. When asked if having his own baby would change how he interacts with others’ babies, Bobby said he still wouldn’t want to hold them unless asked. He added that because they don’t want people touching their baby until she’s older and has her shots, he wouldn’t touch anyone else’s baby either. He definitely wouldn’t kiss someone else’s baby and noted that his wife has a strict no-kissing rule for their baby. Bobby admitted he’s no longer scared of babies, especially his own. He joked that he can now grab, move, and hold his baby without hesitation.

Their baby’s hair is growing quickly and already curling in the back like a mullet, though they’re not planning to cut it. Bobby also said there’s no more sleeping in on weekends and that it’s “all over” for now. He was amazed that babies eventually sleep 10 to 12 hours, though theirs doesn’t yet, and Amy joked about that happening again when they’re teenagers. Bobby shared their dogs have been great. He mentioned that Stanley, the bulldog, doesn’t seem to care much, while Eller is very curious, so they’ve had to be more aware with her. He said they’re doing all the normal things and that everything has been good so far.
