Pedestrian fatally struck by SUV in downtown Anchorage

A pedestrian died after being hit by a sport utility vehicle in downtown Anchorage early Tuesday morning, police said.
The Anchorage Police Department said in an online statement that officers were called to the area of West Fifth Avenue and E Street at about 3:30 a.m. after a vehicle hit a man in the roadway.
The man died after he was taken to a local hospital, police said.
Police said a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling west on Fifth Avenue when it hit the man.
Where the pedestrian was in the road when struck “is still under investigation,” said APD spokesperson Amanda Brimanis.
The SUV’s driver cooperated with police and hasn’t yet been charged with a crime, according to APD’s statement.
The death was the second pedestrian fatality this year in Anchorage, Brimanis said.
