Tyler Freeman’s RBI single in 10th inning lifts Rockies over Blue Jays 2-1

TORONTO – Pinch-hitter Tyler Freeman’s RBI single in the 10th inning helped the Colorado Rockies complete a 2-1 comeback win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.

Troy Johnston had an RBI single in the eighth inning to tie the game 1-1 for Colorado (2-4)

Relievers Antonio Senzatela, Victor Vodnik, Brennan Bernardino (1-0) and Jimmy Herget combined for five scoreless innings. Herget earned the save.

Toronto wasted a superb outing by starting pitcher Kevin Gausman, who struck out 10 and allowed just two hits, in a six-inning no decision. Tyler Rogers, Tommy Nance, Mason Fluharty, Jeff Hoffman, and Brendon Little (0-1) came out of the Blue Jays bullpen, with Little taking the loss.

Davis Schneider’s RBI single in the third inning gave Toronto (4-2) an early lead.

Gausman is the first Major League Baseball pitcher to have 10 or more strikeouts and no walks in his first two games of the season since at least 1900.

Toronto was scheduled to face the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday, but the game was postponed to Friday because of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast.

Dylan Cease (0-0) is next up in Toronto’s rotation and Sean Burke (0-1) was scheduled to go for the White Sox.
