A Former NC State Player’s Perspective on Justin Gainey: Brandon Costner

I’ve connected with quite a few former NC State players to get their thoughts on the hiring of Justin Gainey as the new head coach for the Wolfpack Men’s Basketball team. Last night we posted Jeremy Hyatt’s thoughts. Next up is former NC State Forward Brandon Costner.

Gainey was on staff at NC State when Costner was in Raleigh, serving as both an administrative coordinator and the director of operations.

Costner was at NC State from 2005-09, averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds for his career. As a Freshman, he earned a spot on the All-ACC 3rd Team and the All-Freshman Team, averaging 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Here’s what Costner had to say about the Wolfpack landing Gainey:

“Justin Gainey is a great coach. He has all of the tools to be successful. Former player, great tactically, builds genuine relationships, but more importantly he loves State! He’s a great guy, family man and leader, and I couldn’t be happier to have him.”
