Blue Jays sign veteran lefty Corbin to add pitching depth

The Toronto Blue Jays made a move Friday evening to add some starting pitching depth, signing veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin to a one-year, $1 million deal.
The move comes with starters Cody Ponce, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios on the injured list.
The 36-year-old Corbin made 30 starts last season for the Texas Rangers in 2025, posting a 4.40 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP across 155.1 innings. A two-time All-Star and a 2019 World Series winner with the Washington Nationals, Corbin is set to enter his 14th MLB season.
He began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012 and finished as high as fifth in Cy Young voting, parlaying that success into a big six-year, $140 million deal with the Nationals after the 2018 season.
Despite helping the Nats win it all in 2019, he struggled mightily from 2021 to 2024, posting a combined ERA of 5.71 in those four seasons. He then joined the Rangers on a one-year, $1.1 million contract and had his best season in years.
The Blue Jays are 4-3 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.
