Astros Turn to Cody Bolton for Spot Start with Brown Out

The Houston Astros announced that Cody Bolton will make the start for them tonight against the Colorado Rockies in Denver.

The 28-year old journeyman made his first appearance for the Astros on March 31, picking up a 3 inning save against the Boston Red Sox. It was Bolton’s first career save.

Now he will get his first career start as a member of the Astros as well.

Prior to this season, Bolton had made 34 career appearances over three seasons, playing for the Cleveland Guardians, Seattle Mariners, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Walks and long balls have been Bolton’s Achilles’ heel. He allowed 6 home runs and 24 walks in 42 innings spanning 33 appearances prior to this season.

He was solid in his 3 inning outing against Boston, his first appearance as an Astro. In his 3 innings, he allowed 1 run on one hit (a solo HR), struck out 5 and did not walk a batter.

Ryan Weiss and Kai-Wei Teng are candidates to follow him in the game.
