One-Man ‘Tarkov Competitor’ Launches with Thousands of Players and ‘Very Positive’ Reviews

Road to Vostok, an all-new, early access survival shooter that has been compared to Escape from Tarkov in many ways, has just launched on Steam. It was released today by a solo developer, who has spent the last few years painstakingly piecing the game together, all while keeping the eager community fully apprised of every major update.

Those updates included an evolving demo and a full engine change, amongst other things. The game, a first-person shooter with survival mechanics, some extraction elements, a trader system, and a day-night cycle, has already secured thousands of players and ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam.

Road to Vostok Impresses in Early Reviews

Road to Vostok, which comes from a single developer dedicated to his craft, has managed to rake in strong first impressions on Steam. The game landed in early access today after years of development and demos, and it has climbed to more than 5,000 peak concurrent players on the platform.

To give a little background, Road to Vostok is a hardcore first-person shooter set in a border zone between Finland and Russia. It’s a harsh, bleak game with some brilliant combat mechanics and core survival elements, like hideout customization, health management, and the need to keep fed and watered as you explore the game’s multiple zones.

The ultimate objective is to enter Vostok, a brutal permadeath area patrolled by challenging enemies, securing the game’s best loot, and making it out alive, back to the safety of a hideout. It’s a single-player game for now, which is where the Escape from Tarkov similarities start falling thin.

Elsewhere, it’s easily comparable to Battlestate Games’ extraction shooter, even if it’s not an extraction game at heart.

On Steam, the game has managed to secure hundreds of solid, positive reviews, with many players having nice things to say about the game’s progress since the earlier demos, the stability of the build, and the price, which is just $15 at the time of writing.

If you’ve been in the market for a single player ‘Tarkov like’ that won’t break the bank and will keep you entertained, Road to Vostok might just be the one.
