Cheese products recalled at Thriftys, Sobeys-owned stores due to listeria

A recall has been issued for a range of cheese products sold at Thrifty Foods locations in B.C. and Sobeys-owned locations across Canada.

A total of 15 items sold at Sobeys banners in Western Canada, Atlantic Canada and Ontario – and at Thrifty Foods locations in B.C. – have been recalled due to potential listeria contamination.

In Western Canada, those Sobeys stores include Thrifty Foods, Safeway, IGA and Sobeys.

A full list of all 15 affected products can be found on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) website here and at the bottom of this article.

Some of the products include Chicken & Black Bean Wraps with best before dates up to and including 2026 AL07 sold at Thrifty Foods stores – to Creamy Garlic and Spinach Pasta Salad sold at Sobeys banners with best before dates up to and including AL06.

If you have a recalled product you should not eat, use, sell or serve the items. Instead, you should throw them away or return them to the location where you purchased them.

If you’re unsure if you purchased a recalled product it’s recommended that you contact your local retailer. Meanwhile, if you think you’ve become sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” reads the CFIA notice.

“Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.”

Pregnant women, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems are at a greater risk of illness, according to the CFIA.

More information about listeria can be found on the CFIA website.

The agency notes that the recall was triggered by the company, and that there have been no reported illnesses associated with the products as of April 8.
