Baylor Scheierman on guarding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: It shows the trust like Joe Mazzulla has in me

Baylor Scheierman on guarding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: I mean it’s cool. I mean, obviously it shows the trust like Joe (Mazzulla) has in me and the trust my teammates have in me and it’s cool. It’s cool to have that and build that and obviously I feel like I’ve worked really hard to be able to put myself in this position and the thing about the NBA is there’s always another game. I said it last night like it was a fun game and obviously it’s cool to be able to play well in that type of environment, but like we play again tomorrow. So, it’s just like, oh well, like on to the next game type vibe.

More on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Recent HoopsHype Rumors

“It’s impressive,” said reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had 20 points and 11 assists in the win over the Clippers. “Obviously, none of it means anything if you don’t win in the end, and you know that. But teams that win in the end have some of the same characteristics and traits and check off the same boxes. “So checking off those boxes is kind of just like knowing we’re headed in the right direction. Obviously, we’re far from the finish line of where we want to go, but like I said, it lets us know we’re heading right there.” — 4/9/2026 ESPN

Joey Linn: Kawhi Leonard on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: “He’s been doing great. Flowers to him and the way he works and keeps his body healthy to come in every game and play and be very consistent.” — 4/9/2026 x.com

NBA Courtside: LeBron James says Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s efficiency is Jordan-esque: “Every time you look at the efficiency you look at the box scores and you see Shai 38 it’s like 13 for 17 from the floor you know the other night I think he had 40 something I think it was like 15 for 19. That’s one of my favorite things about players like you know I mean that’s because how I am like I love efficient players. Like you know can go out can do the things on the floor be efficient you know not taking too many bad shots, I mean if you get on a heater you want to take a heat check or two I get it. We all have our nights where we don’t shoot you know to our capabilities, I mean that just comes with the game. But yeah, I think that’s one of the things I love about Shai is just like for him to play on the perimeter as much as he does, playing at mid-range as much as he does and still be as super efficient as he is. It’s Jordan-esque.” (Via @mindthegamepod) — 4/7/2026 Twitter

NBA Communications: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Boston Celtics forward-guard Jaylen Brown have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 24 of the 2025-26 season (March 30 – April 5). — 4/6/2026 Twitter

Michael Martin: Potentially even crazier stat Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is shooting 60% on 2s this year. That would rank as the 4th most efficient shooting season in Wilt Chamberlain’s career. And on top of that in Wilt’s 3 seasons he took 7.1, 14.2 and 9.3 shots a game vs SGA’s 15.2 2s a game. — 4/3/2026 x.com

After the win, Doncic downplayed the individual milestone and focused on the team’s success. “I mean, if you don’t win, it doesn’t really mean anything,” Luka said. “The run we’ve been on, it means a lot. So, we gotta just keep playing like that.” With his seventh 40-point game in March, Luka continues to strengthen his case in the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award race. Despite several well-known media personalities already leaning toward Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Victor Wembanyama for the honor, Doncic’s remarkable stretch has pushed his MVP momentum even higher. When asked about his chances, the Los Angeles Lakers star remained humble. “I neverdid that. I’m not the one voting, but I think I’ve been playing pretty good. We’ve been winning, so that’s it. That’s all I gotta say,” he smiled. — 4/1/2026 BasketNews

And as hot as Doncic and the Lakers were in March, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder went 14-1, with the reigning MVP averaging 30.7 points on 56.8% shooting and 6.6 assists for the month. “Very exciting [matchup],” Lakers guard Austin Reaves said. “Obviously they’re the defending champs. Playing at a high level, obviously one of the best teams in the league, if not the best team. And we have an opportunity to go into OKC and battle them.” — 4/1/2026 ESPN

Brandon Rahbar: Alex Caruso on SGA: “He’s reigning MVP, first team All NBA, best guard in the world for a reason. When he has that look and mindset to will yourself to wins, it’s a great thing to witness.” — 3/31/2026 x.com
