Jaguars GM asked about potential trade for Giants’ Dexter Lawrence

Trading for Dexter Lawrence may be catnip for some, but right now, for the Jaguars, it doesn’t appear to be.
Jacksonville general manager James Gladstone was asked about potential interest in making a play for the veteran defensive tackle, who requested a trade earlier this week.
“That’s not something we’ve gone into,” Gladstone told reporters Thursday. “Obviously he’s under contract with them, so not at liberty necessarily to even talk about it.”
Right now, the Giants do not have any interest in trading Lawrence, who has two years left on his contract in the Big Apple.

The discontent by the Giants defensive star stems from his contract, the lack of success with the Giants and frustration with the roster management.
Lawrence, 28, is slated to make $20 million in salary and bonuses in 2026 and he is in the middle of the four-year, $90 million extension that he had signed in 2023.
Addressing the situation, new Giants coach John Harbaugh said this week “we’ll find out” when discussing whether Lawrence would be there once the season starts.
“The Giants, speaking for the Giants, we want Dexter here,” Harbaugh said. “I believe Dexter wants to be here. That’s a good formula. But there’s business involved. It’s a business proposition. We know it’s pro football. These things happen every year pretty much on every team. Not surprised by it. Saw it coming a few weeks back probably.”
Lawrence is a three-time Pro Bowler and has been a second-team All-Pro twice during his career.

The Jaguars are coming off an appearance in the wild-card round last season, where they were defeated by the Bills.
Jacksonville, which went 13-4 in 2025, appeared in the postseason for just the third time in a decade.
