Who missed the cut at the Masters? Notables sent home after Friday

The second round of the 2026 Masters is in the books and the 36-hole cut has been made.

The field of 91 has been whittled down to 54 after Friday’s second round, where the cut line ended up at 4 over as players battled a firm and fast Augusta National. The low 50 plus ties secured a spot on the weekend tee sheet.

Here’s a look at the notable names who failed to qualify for the weekend at the 90th Masters Tournament.

J.J. Spaun

Score: +5 (74-75)

Just a few days removed from nabbing his third career PGA Tour victory at the Valero Texas Open, J.J. Spaun was sent packing after going 74-75 over the first two days at the Masters to miss the cut by one shot. Spaun, the 2025 U.S. Open champion, birdied two of his last three holes on Friday, but five bogeys sprinkled throughout his second-round scorecard did him in. It’s the first time in three starts that he’s missed the cut at the Masters.

Bubba Watson

Score: +5 (76-73)

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson made 11 bogeys in 36 holes at Augusta National this week and couldn’t find enough birdies to offset all those blemishes, albeit he almost did. Watson’s approach on the 18th Friday found the bunker and he failed to get up-and-down for par, ultimately missing the cut by one shot. Since joining LIV, Watson has missed the weekend at Augusta three times in the last four years.

Danny Willett

Score: +5 (76-73)

For the first time since 2023, Danny Willett will not play the weekend at Augusta National. The 2016 Masters winner made a quadruple-bogey 9 at the par-5 15th on Thursday and couldn’t quite do enough to erase it. Even with a bogey-free 33 on the second nine Friday, Willett missed the cut by one. He’s missed now missed the weekend six times in 10 starts since slipping on the Green Jacket.

Bryson DeChambeau

Score: +6 (76-74)

After an opening 76, Bryson DeChambeau entered Friday with his back against the wall. He responded well, cruising along at 1 under and simply needed a bogey or better at the 18th to secure a weekend tee time. Then disaster struck. It took him two shots to get out of the bunker to the left of the green and his second one rolled back off the front of the putting surface. He ultimately signed for a triple-bogey seven. It was also sloppy bunker play that resulted in a triple-bogey 7 at No. 11 on Thursday and dug a big hole that proved too much to overcome. DeChambeau had won his two previous starts on LIV and was on the short list of favorites to win a Green Jacket thsi year after finishing T-6 and T-5 in his last two starts at Augusta.

Akshay Bhatia

Score: +6 (73-77)

Akshay Bhatia was flirting with the cutline all day Friday and he ended up on the wrong side of a wild finish to his second round. He holed out for birdie from the sand on the 17th to move inside the cutline, but double-bogeyed No. 18 to cap off a 5-over 77. Bhatia, arising star on the PGA Tour who won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, is still in search of his first major. It won’t be at the 90th Masters, which marks his first missed cut in three starts at Augusta.

Zach Johnson

Score: +6 (75-75)

Zach Johnson was T-8 at the Masters last year at the age of 49. Now on the north side of 50, he won’t get the chance to notch another excellent finish at Augusta National. A double-bogey at the 12th on Friday put the 2007 Masters champ behind the 8-ball and he couldn’t recover enough to make the weekend. In his 22nd Masters appearance, he’s now had the weekend off 10 times, and two of the last three years.

Nicolai Hojgaard

Score: +6 (76-74)

Rasmus Hojgaard made birdie on No. 18 Friday to make the cut on the number. His twin brother did not meet such a fate. A pair of double-bogeys over the first few days proved costly for Nicolai Hojgaard, who entered the week fresh off a solo second place finish in his last start at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. Hojgaard is 7-for-7 making cuts on the PGA Tour this season, but at the Masters, it was a different story for the Dane.

Robert MacIntyre

Score: +7 (80-71)

Robert MacIntyre’s frustration boiled over on numerous occasions at Augusta National on Thursday, which saw him shoot 8-over 80 in the first round. He was much better Friday, carding a 1-under 71, but it was far from enough for MacIntyre to stick around for the weekend. The Scotsman, who was a popular pick to win the Green Jacket entering the week, missed the cut by three shots. It is the second time he’s been sent home after 36 holes in his last three years at the Masters.

Cameron Smith

Score: +7 (75-77)

It has been 667 days since Cameron Smith made a cut at a major championship. That drought did not end this week at Augusta National, as the 32-year-old Aussie made a bogey and a double-bogey in his last five holes Friday to drop three shots outside the cutline. The 2022 British Open Champion continues his lackluster string of major outings, which now reaches six weekends off in a row.

Fred Couples

Score: +9 (78-75)

Fred Couples was 2 under through two holes in the 2026 Masters and shot bogey-free 34 on his first nine. Unfortunately, he played the next 27 holes 11 over and won’t be teeing it up this weekend at Augusta National, a place he holds near and dear to his heart. Was this the last time we see “Boom Boom” at the Masters? Time will tell, but it was a valiant effort from the 66-year-old smooth-swinging legend this week.

Min Woo Lee

Score: +11 (78-77)

Min Woo Lee will be leaving Augusta National with an awfully sour taste in his mouth. The 27-year-old Aussie made the turn Friday at 5 over with a solid chance of still securing a spot on the weekend tee sheet, but he fell victim to the perils of Amen Corner. Lee made double-bogey at the 12th before rattling off three more bogeys on Nos. 13-15 to plummet down the leaderboard and miss the cut for the fifth time in his last six major starts.

Nico Echavarria

Score: +13 (79-78)

Nico Echavarria already has a win on the PGA Tour this season, which made him a popular longshot pick to contend for a Green Jacket, but any hopes of that were quickly dashed. He made three double bogeys and a triple bogey over 36 holes at Augusta National and will once again be watching the weekend action at a major from home. His best finish in eight major starts is a T-41 at the 2025 PGA Championship.
