Lowry Goes the Distance in Series-Opening Win at No. 4 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore lefty Audrey Lowry spun a seven-inning complete game shutout, the OU defense dazzled and the bats homered twice as No. 2 Oklahoma (39-3, 12-1 SEC) blanked No. 4 Texas (32-5, 9-4 SEC), 3-0, Friday, April 10.

Ella Parker hit a two-run home run, Isabela Emerling added a solo homer and the Oklahoma defense made every play in the field, turning two double plays.

Lowry posted the first seven-inning complete game shutout of her career, earning her 18th victory of the season.

OU 3, Texas 0
Kai Minor singled to open the game and Ella Parker brought her home with a 253-foot home run to left center, giving OU a quick 2-0 lead.

Audrey Lowry scattered singles in the first and third inning to spin three scoreless frames as OU took a 2-0 lead into a 34-minute rain delay, the first delay of the evening.

Lowry worked around a single in the fourth, spinning another scoreless. Minor showed off her glove in the fourth, helping shut down Texas by robbing Katie Stewart with a sliding catch in right center. Texas’ biggest threat of the night came in the fifth when Ashton Maloney tripled down the left field line to open the inning. Kaydee Bennett skied a shallow fly ball to right center that Ella Parker caught and threw to home, doubling up Maloney at the plate.

Isabela Emerling launched a 259-foot homer to left in the fifth, the first runs of the game since the first frame, giving OU a 3-0 lead.

Lowry started another key double play in the sixth, turning a 1-4-3 double play on a chopper with one away. She had the assist on the third out of the inning, retiring Reese Atwood with a nice play on a slow roller to her right.

With the Sooners in the 3-0 lead in the middle of the seventh, the second rain delay of the night stunted play for over 45 minutes. Despite a leadoff walk, Lowry induced a flyout, popout and fielder’s choice to earn her first seven-inning complete game shutout.
