Blue Jays’ George Springer fractures big toe vs. Twins

Designated hitter George Springer was removed from Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins with a left big toe fracture, the team announced.
Springer appeared to suffer the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot in the third inning. It was Springer’s second plate appearance of the game, and he was pinch-hit for by Myles Straw in his next turn up.
The news continues what has been a troubling start for the Blue Jays on the injury front. Toronto is already without two of its biggest bats, as both Alejandro Kirk (thumb) and Addison Barger (ankles) are already on the injured list.
Springer, the lead-off hitter for the Blue Jays, entered Saturday’s game slashing .189/.283/.377 with two home runs and four RBIs this season.
The 36-year-old slugger is coming off a resurgent 2025 season that saw him earn a Silver Slugger award. He slashed .309/.399/.560 last season, and his .959 OPS ranked second in the AL behind Aaron Judge.
Toronto is now dealing with key injuries to both its pitching staff and lineup.
Trey Yesavage (shoulder), Shane Bieber (elbow) and Jose Berrios (elbow) are among the Jays starters still working their way back from injuries.
