BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey welcomed Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds to Brevard County this week for a wide-ranging tour highlighting public safety operations, infrastructure challenges, and the region’s rapid growth.
The visit brought together Brevard law enforcement leaders, community stakeholders, and residents, as Ivey showcased the county’s approach to crime prevention, emergency response, and quality-of-life issues.
The tour also provided Donalds with a ground-level view of the opportunities and pressures facing one of Florida’s fastest-growing regions.
Throughout the day, Ivey emphasized Brevard County’s proactive policing strategies, including advanced technology, targeted enforcement initiatives, and community partnerships to reduce crime and improve public trust.
“We’re proud of the work our deputies and law enforcement partners are doing every day to keep Brevard County safe,” Ivey said during the tour.
“It’s important for leaders at the state level to see firsthand what’s working and where we need support.”
Donalds, a congressman representing Southwest Florida and a Republican candidate for governor, said the visit reinforced his focus on public safety as a cornerstone of his campaign.
“Brevard County is a great example of what strong leadership and community involvement can accomplish,” Donalds said.
“As Florida continues to grow, we have to make sure our law enforcement agencies have the tools, funding, and support they need to stay ahead of emerging challenges.”
Stops on the tour included briefings with deputies, discussions on traffic enforcement and infrastructure needs, and overviews of emergency management capabilities, particularly as the county prepares for future hurricane seasons.
The visit also touched on issues such as school safety, homelessness, and the impact of new development on public services.
Ivey and Donalds also addressed the importance of maintaining Florida’s reputation as a law-and-order state while balancing economic expansion.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds brought his campaign’s focus on law enforcement and immigration policy to Brevard County on Tuesday, hosting a public safety roundtable as part of his statewide “Defending the Florida Dream” tour.
The April 7 event, held at Carroll Distributing in Melbourne, drew local officials, law enforcement leaders, and community members for a discussion centered on crime, public safety policy, and the role of government in maintaining order.
Doors opened at 10 a.m., with the forum framed as an opportunity for community engagement on pressing safety issues.
Donalds, a sitting U.S. congressman and a leading contender in the 2026 race to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, used the roundtable to outline a “law-and-order” agenda that would guide his administration if elected.
“Florida must remain a law-and-order state,” Donalds said during the discussion, emphasizing support for law enforcement and strict adherence to existing laws.
Focus on immigration, enforcement, and local cooperation
A central theme of the roundtable was immigration enforcement and the allocation of public resources.
Donalds proposed restricting taxpayer-funded benefits to U.S. citizens and legal residents, arguing that public funds should prioritize those “who follow the law.”
He also called for expanded cooperation between state and local agencies and federal immigration authorities, as well as a statewide ban on so-called sanctuary policies.

The Melbourne event also highlighted Donalds’ effort to connect directly with voters and local officials, positioning public safety as a cornerstone of his bid to lead the state.

“While serving in the Florida House, I primarily focused on elder affairs, criminal justice reform, and ensuring that each child has access to a world-class education,” said Donalds.
Donalds said he is committed to serving and giving back to the community that gave him so much.
He previously served on the Board of Trustees for Florida SouthWestern State College after being appointed by then-Governor Rick Scott.
Donalds continues to volunteer in his church as a youth leader and a mentor. He also enjoys volunteering as a coach in youth football and basketball leagues.
He lives in Naples with his wife, Erika, and their three sons: Damon, Darin, and Mason. Byron has spent his entire adult life serving others, whether it be through volunteering, business, or leadership.
