Liam Delap has had a pretty horrible first season at Chelsea, and Pat Nevin has tried to defend him a little over his struggles.

Liam Delap was only supposed to be a backup striker for Chelsea this season, but even by those standards he’s not been good enough. Former Blue Pat Nevin is usually pretty positive, but even he can’t find much nice to say about the former Ipswich man.

Delap’s horrible numbers don’t look promising for long term future

“The numbers aren’t looking great in terms of goals scored and assists and things like that, and they’re trying to find different positions for him, playing him slightly wider than you would normally when he is brought on,” Nevin said in quotes picked up by the Metro.

The numbers, if you were wondering, are two goals in 1283 minutes (13.2 90s) games for the Blues. That’s pretty damning stuff. Plenty of those games were as a sub, but lots were against weak opposition in the Champions League and domestic cups too.

When you compare him with Joao Pedro’s success in his first season, it’s not pretty. Surely Chelsea will push for another striker this summer?

In other news…

A piece about Liam Rosenior being popular in the dressing room has actually ended up making him seem a little bit weak after he punished Enzo Fernandez.

The word on the street from Enzo’s camp is that they have “made peace” with Chelsea, which is promising.
