Fire damages German Village landmark: The Thurman Cafe

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A fire broke out at The Thurman Cafe on Sunday afternoon, damaging the structure of the German Village landmark but resulting in no injuries.
The blaze reportedly began in the basement of the building located at 183 Thurman Ave.
The Columbus Division of Fire arrived on the scene to find active flames in the lower level.
While the fire was contained, officials noted that the building sustained structural damage.
The extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire remain under investigation.
According to fire officials, all staff members and patrons were evacuated safely.
Known for its “Thurmanator” burger and long-standing presence in the community, the family-owned cafe has been a staple of the Columbus dining scene since 1942.
