‘Southern Bastards’ Hulu Pilot Casts Tim McGraw & Erin Kellyman

Erin Kellyman (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple) and Tim McGraw (1883) are set to star alongside Kevin Bacon in Southern Bastards, the recently announced Hulu drama pilot from director/executive producer Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Kellyman will play the role of Roberta, with McGraw as Coach Boss. Bacon plays Earl, as previously announced.
Based on the award-winning graphic novel series by Jason Aaron & Jason Latour, who serve as exec producers, Southern Bastards follows a tenacious military vet into Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. What she finds is a murderous hornet’s nest of organized crime run by the winningest high school football coach in the South.
Kellyman’s Roberta is a former marine who is facing charges by the military after an incident in Afghanistan. Intelligent and psychologically complex, she’s constantly trying to understand and outrun her generational trauma and inherited violence. When Roberta comes to Craw County, she’s just out for revenge, but if she’s going to change this county for good and topple everything Boss has built, she’s got to put down roots and find a home in the town.
McGraw’s Coach Boss is the legendary head football coach of Craw County High School — the leader of his community and a complex figure who embodies the dark side of Southern football culture. He’s the head of an organized crime ring that extends beyond his small town in Alabama, and he’s not afraid to protect his empire by any means necessary.
Bacon’s Earl is the son of the legendary Sheriff Bert, who ruled Craw County with an iron fist.
Southern Bastards hails from Onyx Collective, POV Entertainment, and Proximity Media, in association with Fifth Season. Sharing story credit here with Nia DaCosta, Ozark’s Bill Dubuque penned the teleplay and is exec producing alongside Matt Olmstead, who will also serve as showrunner, as well as Aaron, Latour, and Green. Other EPs include Layne Eskridge of POV Entertainment, and Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler of Proximity Media. Simone Harris of Proximity Media and Kate Barry of POV are co-EPs, with Proximity’s creative executives Hannah Baker and D’Angelo Louis also set to oversee the project.
Most recently seen starring opposite Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell in Sony’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Kellyman is also known for her work in projects like Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut Eleanor the Great, Steve McQueen’s Blitz, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s Willow, and Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, to name just a few. She is represented by CAA, Curtis Brown Group, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
A Grammy-winning country artist who has sold over 106 million records worldwide, earning 49 number one singles and 19 number one albums, with a recent induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, McGraw has most recently been seen on screen in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone and the prequel series 1883. Other notable credits include Tomorrowland, The Blind Side, Four Christmases, and Friday Night Lights. He is repped by CAA and Jamie Mandelbaum of Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
