New Nissan Xterra Teased: Shows Face For First Time

  • This first teaser reveals a prominent ‘NISSAN’ badge, amber accent lights, and yellow paint.
  • Nissan has confirmed the Xterra’s return, likely sometime in 2028.
  • The SUV is expected to feature a body-on-frame platform and a naturally aspirated V6 engine.

Get ready: A new Nissan Xterra is on the way. The company has confirmed the SUV will return to the lineup, likely for the 2028 model year, and now we’re getting our first official preview. From what we can see so far, it looks pretty tough.

Nissan has released a single teaser image showing the front end of the upcoming Xterra. While details are still pretty slim, a few key elements stand out: a bold “NISSAN” wordmark across the front bumper, amber accent lights tucked beneath the hood line, and a striking yellow paint finish. It also looks like the new Xterra could have split headlights.

Sharp-eyed viewers might notice some design cues you’ve seen before. The triple accent lighting resembles what we’ve seen on global Nissan models like the Frontier Pro PHEV (as does the yellow paint job), and there are even hints of similarity to recent Pajero teasers.

That’s not too surprising, though. Nissan’s more rugged models tend to share design language and features. We already know the new Xterra will ride on a body-on-frame platform and feature a naturally aspirated V6 engine—so no hybrid powertrain this time.

The new Xterra is expected to arrive sometime in 2028.

Motor1’s Take: This teaser image doesn’t show much, but it gives us a good idea of what the next Xterra SUV will look like when it debuts in just a few years.
