Throughout the season, as Tyson considers ending his retirement yet again, he is soon forced to attend a hospital appointment to assess an ongoing health issue. From a previous bout, the fighter tore a rotator cuff and explains to wife Paris that he is in agony.

He adds that it is starting to impact his training and also everyday life. Tyson admits he can no longer lift his arm above his head and is in pain when he lifts up one of his children.

What happened to Tyson Fury’s uncle Hughie?

Hughie Fury was the uncle to Tyson and brother to Tyson’s father John Fury. Hughie helped to train Tyson early in his career.

Earlier this year, Tyson posted a throwback image of himself lifting a belt aloft outside a caravan in a post reminiscing about his early days and his uncle. He captioned it: “Never forget the past, this is where it all started in the back of my uncle Hughie Fury’s (RIP) yard, living in a trailer outside the gym.

“Won English 2 times and British and commonwealth titles here and didn’t even have running water. I look back at these times and realise they were amazing! You can’t buy experience! Such a long and hard road it’s been, however I wouldn’t change a thing!”

Hughie Fury died back in October 2014 aged 50. Tyson was 26 years old at the time and when the news was announced tweeted: “Tragic loss for the fury family. Uncle Hughie Fury. Forever in my heart & life. RIP. Gone to see Jesus.”

According to the Lancaster Guardian, Hughie was injured when the drawbar of a caravan fell on his leg as he moved it in July 2014. His broken shin bone was initially plastered in a cast from his toe to above his knee.

Experiencing more discomfort from almost his whole leg being in cast, he later went back to hospital and agreed to have a metal plate bolted into his leg. Unfortunately, his heart stopped during the surgery. It was later found a blood clot formed and caused cardiac arrest.

Hughie was in a coma for 11 weeks after the surgery before he died. An inquest said the cause of death was bronchial pneumonia resulting from a pulmonary embolism and cardiac arrest and recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
